A conference titled "Ensuring fundamental human rights and freedoms: a key condition for reforms in New Uzbekistan" was held at TSUL

The conference, initiated by the representative of the Ombudsman at Tashkent State University of Law, was attended by the Representative of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Children’s Rights, representatives of the Supreme Court, Ministry of Justice, Chamber of lawyers, faculty from the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, TSUL, Tashkent International University, and other higher educational institutions.

Discussions at the conference focused on enhancing cooperation in training highly qualified legal professionals, bridging theory and practice, involving students more extensively in the activities of the Children’s Ombudsman, protecting human rights and children’s interests, the prosecutor’s role in safeguarding human rights and freedoms, the rights of victims in legal proceedings, and ensuring and guaranteeing human rights in New Uzbekistan.

The event also highlighted reforms under the "Uzbekistan – 2030" strategy aimed at protecting human rights in the country, the powers and activities of the Children’s Ombudsman, and state policies to combat torture against children.

Particular attention was given to strengthening the legal framework for the activity of the Children's Ombudsman in Uzbekistan, expanding its powers, and creating a National Preventive Mechanism to prevent child torture as outlined in legislation.

The Children’s Ombudsman Club at TSUL was recognised as an integral part of these efforts, with discussions on enhancing responses to appeals by assigning club members to work with Ombudsman experts.

The conference included presentations by participants, with experts addressing questions from the audience.
